Version: normal crunches
Progress: w4d2c2
Progression: 22, 17, 17, 15, max 20
Today's Max: 26 (+6)
Today's Totals: 97

I feel strong, even though today's total was a bit down from last time. Speaking of totals, I've been thinking about The Test that's scheduled at the end of this week. But because I went on about it at length over at [info]100_pushups, I don't really think it's necessary to get into here. Mostly about taking The Test as a workout day instead of doing it before or after a normal workout. Go here for original entry and discussion.

Do people find this community helpful? It seems that most of us are doing both push ups and crunches and it might be easier to post both at the same time but I wouldn't want to impose on the other community. I think most people post there anyway, and that is fine by me.

What does everyone think?

. . . and we're back.

Life got in the way this weekend.

I was suppose to do this day after taking Veronica and Kat to the airport on Sunday. But with my grandmother dying, I really didn't feel like it. Yesterday either, but that was my birthday, so it was just a whole lot of other didn't feel like it. But today we got back on the horse. And it felt good.

Progress: w2(4)d1c2
Progression: 22, 16, 16, 14, max 22
Today's Max: 22 (+0)
Today's Totals: 90

I'm kinda dissapointed that I couldn't do more than the max today. But then, I did run 20 minutes in [info]couch_to_5k, participate in the local bowling league, and then did [info]100_pushups before doing the crunches, so I guess it's to be expected. At least I did them at all.

Here's to getting right back on the horse.

Progression: 25, 19, 19, 17, max 22
Today's Max: 25 (+3)
Today's Totals: 105

I think I'm just tired today. Last time was so good, but today was a lot harder. Maybe just because it's Friday, or because it's so hot I'm swelling (like my hands and feet and whatnot). Either way, I did more than the max, so I feel good. And dood, I just did 105 crunches. Woot.

Another day down, 16 to go! :)

Stats:
  • Rank: 3
  • Max: 20
  • Total: 108

I decided that it would bother me to be in different weeks for crunches, so I am going to do the same week/day as I do for push ups and just double the numbers for crunches. This was tough, but totally doable.

I did the crunches after biking 2 miles from work and running 1 mile pretty hard. That was probably not the best idea. I also alternated between push ups and crunches to use the rest time more effectively. Not sure if that was a good idea either. I say all this to justify doing the bare minimum for the max, but at least I was able to do that much and I ended up with total of 39 more than Monday. Man, I love this program!

So, in response to some of the How To questions, I did an internet search and found this how to video.

According to this, I've (of course) been doing them wrong. But that's okay. Today went really well, I think. The "proper" crunches were both harder to do, and easier all at the same time. I was able to do a few more, but they hurt more, if that makes sense.

Current Stats

Version: normal crunch
Progress: w3d2c2
Progression: 22, 17, 17, 15, max 20
Today's Max: 30 (+10!!!!!!!)
Today's Totals: 101

Oh, wow. I really like that total. That makes me feel so good.

Test - Intro [Jun. 16th, 2008|09:32 pm]

The test went well - 44 in a row - I could have done more actually but chose to stop there.
Level 4, start day one tomorrow. I'm going to double this program and make my goal 200 crunches. When I complete it I will change the type of crunch and re-do the challenge with different types.

I am using the same progression from [info]100_pushups for crunches, but since I could do 25 in a row this morning, I started on week 3-day 1-column1 (w3d1c1). Jason thinks I may not be coming up far enough, but I think he was actually doing sit ups, while I was doing crunches. But it makes me wonder because I got through this fairly easily and managed a max of 20 at the end. Maybe I should have just started in column 2? But that seemed more daunting and didn't want to overdo it on day 1.

Below are my current stats. I sure like seeing that total number at the end there. I think that is what will keep me going through this process. Regardless of how many we are doing in a row, that total number is going to go up every single day we do this and that is pretty damn empowering and encouraging.

Stats:
  • Rank: 3 (25 in a row)
  • Progress: w3d1c1
  • Max: 20 (+5)
  • Total: 69

LaFou I'm afraid I've been thinking . . .

So, the goal for the 100 Push Ups Program that we're basing this thing off of is to do 100 consecutive push ups, right? Well, I know I can do 100 crunches. Before I hurt myself (again, and again, I say, "stupid staircase") I was doing about 120 in a sitting. I just wasn't doing them consecutively. I was doing them in about 25 repped sets. So, I figure if the goal is to do 100 crunches consecutively, then I don't really see a problem with doing the program as is, seeing how during my initial test, I could only do about 20 crunches consecutively before my stomach and back started burning so much I couldn't continue and needed a rest. So, based on that number for my initial test, I'm at Rank 3.

When looking actually at the week one chart, there isn't a place for "if you did 20 push ups during the initial test," and there isn't one for week 2 either. But starting with week 3, there is. Column 1 is for 16-20, Column 2 is for 21-25. So I did that. I decided, because I was right on the cusp anyway to go ahead and start my 100 Crunches Program on Week 3, Day 1, Column 2. And it went fantabulously.

I waited the standard 60 seconds between each level, until the last one, in which I waited until it really stopped hurting, about 2 minutes. During level 5 I was able to push myself and do 23 crunches. For a daily total of 86 crunches. Woot! I feel pretty good about it.

Intro and Welcome [Jun. 15th, 2008|10:05 am]

Welcome to the 100 Crunches community. The idea is to work up to 100 crunches in 6 weeks. We're going to adapt the 100 Push Ups Program for crunches until we come up with something better. Steve, who created the 100 push up program, had this to say about adapting it for crunches: "I'm sure the same progression would work for crunches. I'm much better at crunches too. Maybe you could double the figure and see how that goes?"

So what do you guys think? Should we take the test and follow the same program or double the numbers in the push up program to adapt it for crunches? I think either way would be fine since "the main concept of the program is a gradual progression, so even any improvement is better than nothing right?" (from Steve's email)

I am leaning towards using the same progression and just starting in a different column since I can do more crunches than push ups to start.

Thoughts?

So a little bit about me ...

My name is Kitzzy and I am 29. I have been on a lifestyle change journey since February. Through exercise and eating better, I've lost about 20 pounds since then. I finished the C25K program about a week ago and I can now run a full 5K in under 42 minutes. I plan to train for a 10K in October and a half marathon in March (or maybe December). I want to be fit all around, which is why I am undertaking this new challenge.
